Artisti Coffee Roasters are a Coffs Harbour based team of coffee enthusiasts, offering wholesale and retail coffee both online and from they roasters and espresso bar. 10(?) years in the industry has established them as a leader in the local coffee scene and they are one of our longer-standing clients to date.
Artisti came to us with the purpose of helping them to identify their place in the industry and to their customers. Their brand had longevity but was lacking direction and intent. Artisti’s reputation as a boutique local roasters had served them well in establishing a name on the Coffs Coast, but this was restricting their capacity to grow.
Over the years, they have built the infrastructure to expand to a national brand, so our goal was to evolve they branding, packaging designs and digital presence to match this intention. They’re brand had longevity but was lacking direction and intent. Artisti’s reputation as a boutique, local roastery had served them well to establish their name on the Coffs Coast, but this was restricting their capacity to grow. Over the years that have built the infrastructure to expand to a national brand, therefore we endeavoured to evolve their branding, packaging designs and digital presence to match this intention.
Brand & Art direction
Artisti’s original branding was strong and masculine with blacks, oranges and wood grain. It spoke to a niche market of coffee enthusiasts and segmented them from their core female audience. Years of sporadic design updates had left them without a strong identify, so creating a modern, versatile and approachable brand was the first task on our list.
Locally they were known as Artisti, but nationally their name was unknown. Because of this, ensuring Coffee Roasters was a key part of their branding was essential. Transitioning them from coffee makers to coffee roasters was crucial to their growth strategy and capitalising on their core service – roasting coffee for wholesale accounts.
Our market research and brand positioning led us to create a contemporary, minimalist brand mark that would work in any environment – from a start up cafe or even a modern home barista.
Website Design & development
Artisti has maintained an online store for over 4 years with sporadic sales depending on their marketing efforts. Realising that their website was a powerful platform to drive retail sales as well as attract wholesale accounts, the decision was made to rebuild it. Moving them from WordPress to Shopify has enabled them to easily manage stock, build and re-market to their databases as well as ensure the user experience is not foreign to their customers. Since rebuilding their website in November 2018, they have grown their coffee subscription database which has further increased their revenue.
Further refinements to the website are currently in progress to ensure it is converting the traffic into sales and qualified leads.
Artisti Coffee Roasters website design and development includes:
Graphic design was of the highest consideration throughout the branding process as it was essential the numerous printed elements were consistent – something that can prove challenging when using multiple printing companies.
The graphic design elements completed for Artisti included:
250g, 500g 1kg Coffee Bags
Coffee Bag sleeves
Coffee Tasting Cards
The simple choice of using white space to create a minimal and modern look was also strategic for reducing printing costs and lowering issues that come with printing.
The colour choices were based on the personalities given to each coffee blend with the Champion Blend showcasing the brands colour. This was intentional to ensure the new Artisti brand colour was also the primary blend colour, therefore reestablishing their customers connection to their name and taste profile. The turquoise colour was chosen as the least offensive colour that would not clash with surrounding colours in a modern home kitchen for retail customers or a modern cafe setting.
The versatility of Artisti’s offerings had become their greatest downfall. They were supplying varied blends of roasted coffee to wholesale accounts without a clear distinction of their properties. This resulted in an inconsistency between wholesale accounts that led to confusion among coffee drinkers who could never work out why their coffee tasted different every time they tried it. We worked with Artisti to establish their core offering and then created an identity for each blend, thus creating a uniformity as well as uniqueness amongst wholesale accounts.
Empowering Artisti with versatile branding and establishing long term goals has enabled them to be consistent throughout their communication channels and be targeted in their approach. Since their rebrand and updating of both digital and printed material, Artisti have experienced increased sales, landed new wholesale accounts and built their subscriber base and we’re only at the beginning of their journey.
