James Dee.

Front-End Developer

Meet James, Coast’s Front-end Developer and resident tech brain. Whether it’s a complex web build, API integration, a tricky digital problem or training a client team to feel confident online, James is the one who makes it happen.

He brings a sharp, strategic mind to every project, finding solutions that are as smart as they are practical. No jargon, no unnecessary complexity, just clean code and good outcomes. If it lives on the internet, James can build it, fix it or make it better… all while making cheerful jokes along the way!

Get to know me.

1. What do you do at Coast?

I have recently been taken on as Coast’s new front-end developer. I’m responsible for making sure that new customer websites look as good as they can, and that they run smoothly once they’re out in the real world.

2. What is your favourite thing about working at Coast?

I love the studio environment! I have been working solo for the past five years, so coming into a studio with a team to work with is refreshing. It helps that I like the tunes they play.

3. How are you creative or innovative in your role at Coast?

It’s a cliche answer but there is a WordPress quote that says “Code is Poetry”. Creating an elegantly written function that reads well by both humans and servers is always a creative challenge.

4. Describe the vibe at Coast:

Harmonious.

5. What unique flavour you bring to the team?

I am a trivia gun.

6. If you were a character from a famous film or book, who would you be and why?

Ted ‘Theodor’ Logan from the time travel documentary Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Ted is often underestimated, but when doing something that he’s passionate about (Wyld Stallyns) he can be the best in the world.

7. What is your fav piece of clothing?

My current favourite piece of clothing is my boots. I picked them up last winter. They are 10″, waterproof, carbon fibre toed comfort.

8. What is your vice when faced with a challenge?

Coffee, coffee and coffee.

9. What would your proud Mum or loved one say about you?

My wife would say I’m kind, my Mum would say I’m a smart arse.

10. Choose 3 words that best describe you.

Not good at counting (Have a Go).
