Port Stephens Magazine – A Fresh Look for Destination Tourism

Coast was thrilled to use our expertise in tourism design and publishing for another stunning NSW coastal destination, this time with Destination Port Stephens (DPS). The Destination Port Stephens team engaged We Are Coast for full production and publishing of their 2025 Tourism Magazine, from initial concept through to design, copywriting, advertising design and coordination.

The result is an elevated publication that encapsulates the essence and adventure of Port Stephens.

Publication Design & Layout

Led by our Creative Director, Jena, Coast meticulously planned the design strategy, reviewing previous publications to ensure the 2025 guide was elevated and fresh. This process included a detailed pagination style format and layout strategy to ensure the final magazine flowed seamlessly. This helped Coast develop the new visual direction for the 2025 Visitor Guide that felt upgraded, authentic, and reflective of the region’s coastal character. Through strategic use of colour, typography, and layout, we evolved the established brand style into something clean and crisp, giving it a refreshing look that stands out from previous years.

The design process also included a custom-illustrated, pull-out gatefold map to be used as a handy pocket travel guide, designed by Coast designer Emily, offering readers a functional guide to explore the area.

Content Strategy & Copywriting

Coast team conducted a content review, working with the Destination Port Stephens team to plan for new titles and refreshed editorial sections, ensuring a major upgrade from previous years.

Following this strategic foundation, Coast’s Copywriter Kirralee crafted editorial content that captured the essence of Port Stephens through immersive and emotive storytelling. The written direction focused on inviting readers in, transporting them to the region, and the endless experiences it has to offer. The result was engaging copy that reads like an experience, aiming to inspire visitors to explore, stay longer, and return.

Advertising Coordination

As part of the Coast’s full-service delivery, we managed the advertising coordination and creative production for the magazine.

This included liaising directly with advertisers, designing templated directory ads and listings, and project managing timelines and print requirements. Our hands-on approach streamlined the process for both Destination Port Stephens and local vendors and ensured every ad complemented the publication’s fresh, premium aesthetic while maintaining a crisp, consistent overall look for the magazine.

The Outcome

With refreshed visuals, engaging copy and seamless project management, Coast helped Destination Port Stephens deliver a magazine that looks elevated, on-brand and promotes the region beautifully. The result spoke for itself – Coast has been re-engaged to produce the 2026 edition of the Port Stephens Magazine, with a project kick-off visit scheduled to get underway shortly. We’re proud to be a continuing creative partner for one of NSW’s most celebrated coastal destinations.
